Socially Responsible

At Christopher Ranch, we conduct our business in an ethical, socially responsible, environmentally sustainable manner, and we continuously work to nurture our relationship with our customers, employees, our community and the earth.

Our Customers: Christopher Ranch has maintained high standards in our growing, processing and packing facilities for over 50 years in order to ensure product quality, availability, safety and customer satisfaction, while building customer confidence through honesty, fairness and open communication.

Our Employees: Christopher Ranch policy specifies that every employee is entitled to a safe and healthful place to work. We consider the well being of our personnel to be of prime importance, and we provide a work environment where employees are safe, respected, appreciated and encouraged to express their concerns and ideas. Christopher Ranch established a preschool on-site in 1994 (developed with the SCCOE Head Start program), for the children of employees.  Christopher Ranch complies with existing local and federal laws regarding slavery and human trafficking in the country or countries in which we are conducting business.

Our Community: Christopher Ranch has a long history of support, both financial and participatory, for local schools, events, fundraisers, non-profit organizations and the local economy including the co-creation and ongoing support of the Gilroy Garlic Festival, donation of land and funds to build a new high school, and the employment of over 500 employees year round and 1200 seasonally.

The Earth: Our commitment to sustainability is ongoing in all aspects of operations including:
Field: stringent field rotation programs, strict field rules and regulations, drip irrigation to reduce water use; pesticide residue free garlic, increased organic production, storm water recycling.
Packing Facilities: environmentally-friendly, recyclable, more compact packaging; kraft boxes instead of white cardboard, preventative maintenance and upgrades on machinery and equipment to increase efficiency and safety; agricultural waste recycling, recycling bins for employees.
Transportation: economical fuels, shipping procedures and more efficient logistical patterns; fleet upgrade to meet emission standards; support of employee carpool.
Administration: electronic invoicing, data, newsletter and document transmission to eliminate unnecessary paper use.

Christopher Ranch consistently updates and improves standards, products, performance, facilities and working conditions in a concerted effort to produce the best garlic products on the market, in the most environmentally and socially responsible ways possible.
